There are certain people (you just keep coming back to...the Fray, anyone?)
Okay, but really, there are certain people that I'm just drawn to. There aren't a tremendous number of these folks wandering around, and I'm drawn to different ones for different reasons.
Andrew Temple was one of the first people I was drawn to at MC. There are a variety of reasons for that, not least of which included his red hair.
Liz Wheeler is another person. I've been drawn to her since I heard her sing in college choir one night and thought she had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. I also thought she was way cooler than me (she is, by the way) but now we're great friends.
Jan Harper is yet another of those people. I roomed with her on my first choir tour, which I thought was odd at first, but I've always been drawn to her. I tell people all the time I wanna be her when I grow up.
The McCormicks draw me as well. Josh is one of my favorite people on earth- partly because every time I'm around him I leave feeling challenged and loved. Liz is incredible. Her artwork blows me away, and she always brings a smile to my face. She has this simple way of expressing profound truth that challenges me to drop the facade and just be real. I've known Mary the least amount of time, but she never ceases to bring laughter and joy into my life. I love hearing her sing. And something that's incredible about Mary is that she's real- she makes no apologies for who she is, and I think that's beautiful.
There's no real point to this post; I was just reflecting on people I just really enjoy being around. These are true friends, and I am thankful for them. They're not alone. There are others- Wes, the other Wes, Clay, Abigail, Brett, Jim...others that I've been drawn to for wrong reasons, some I must guard myself from, some that I simply chose not to mention. But I think it's neat how sometimes something in us just resonates with something in someone else and a bond is formed. I have a tendency to pick my friends before I really know them due to this sort of thing. I'm really strange... but yeah. It's true.
So...there ya go. You should know these people. If you don't, you're missing out.
